Rubber Air Springs
Factory Real Photos:
Rolling Lobe Air Spring
Another Name:
Air bellows, corrugated bellows (also called single-convoluted, double-convoluted, etc., depending on the number of convolutions).
Structural Features:
Composed of a rubber bellows and upper and lower metal cover plates (or pistons). The rubber bellows itself is reinforced with internal cord layers to limit its expansion, offering a relatively short stroke.
Subtypes:
● Single-Convoluted: Has only one bulging convolution. Compact in size and high in stiffness, often used for damping and applications with low height requirements.
● Double-Convoluted: Has two bulging convolutions. The most common type, balancing stroke, stiffness, and load capacity.
● Triple-Convoluted: Has three bulging convolutions. Provides a longer stroke and lower stiffness but slightly reduced lateral stability.
● Multi-Convoluted: More than three convolutions, used for special requirements.
Main Applications:
Automotive suspension (especially commercial vehicles), industrial equipment vibration isolation, railway bogies, etc.
Sleeve-Type Air Spring
Another Name:
Piston-type air spring, gourd-shaped air bellows.
Structural Features:
The rubber airbag consists of a complete rubber membrane, usually requiring an external metal piston (with a complex design) for coordination. It extends and retracts by rolling onto or off the piston, offering a longer stroke and more ideal characteristic curves.
Subtypes:
● Controlled Sleeve-Type: Both ends of the airbag are fixed to metal components, and the stroke is achieved by rolling and unrolling the rubber membrane. Offers good lateral stability.
● Free Sleeve-Type: The upper end of the airbag is fixed to the top cover, while the lower end cooperates with the piston but is not fixed, allowing sliding and rolling during operation. This is the most mainstream type for passenger vehicle air suspension systems.
Main applications:
High-end passenger vehicle air suspension (e.g., Audi, Mercedes-Benz), vibration isolation for precision instrument platforms.
Bellows-Type Air Spring
Another Name:
Air bellows, simple air bellows (due to its relatively simple structure).
Structural features:
Its structure is intermediate between rolling lobe and sleeve-type. It consists of a long cylindrical rubber airbag, with both ends fixed to metal covers via clamps. It does not require a complex piston and primarily relies on the expansion and compression of the airbag itself to function.
Main applications:
Primarily used in industrial fields, such as vibration isolation and stroke control for vibrating screens, large punch presses, and presses. Also commonly used in truck cab suspension seats.
