A rubber vibration isolator works by flexing. It must be soft enough to absorb vibration but firm enough to support the machine. Over time, three processes degrade its performance:
Compression set (creep) : The constant weight of the machine slowly flattens the isolator. A flattened isolator loses preload. The machine sits lower and has more freedom to move. Vibration increases.
